Born in São João del Rei, in the countryside of Minas Gerais, Rafael Assunção is a screenwriter and animation artist. His interest in writing and storytelling comes from his childhood, when he would play making illustrated books, but it was only during his graduation in Animation Cinema and Digital Artes at UFMG that he discovered himself as a screenwriter. In 2021, he was selected for the program Fulbright New Voices, during the program he wrote his first feature length screenplay “I Stole the Rain for Love”, which was selected in 2022 for the screenwriting laboratories Laboratório Novas Histórias and for the Frapa Lab, where it won the award for best feature length screenplay in the Frapa screenwriting contest.
Rafael received in 2022 the Paradiso Award for best feature film script in the FRAPA script contest with the feature film project "Eu Roubei a Chuva por Amor". In addition, Rafael was selected with the same project for the Screenwriter category of Paradiso Incubator 2023
